The full extent of this devastation is still unclear, but thousands are feared dead and millions left homeless. The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, has said that the Haitian emergency was the "most serious humanitarian crisis faced by the United Nations" in decades.

An international effort is battling with wrecked infrastructure to get aid to more than 2 million desperate people in Haiti. Haiti needs money for water, food, shelter and basic medical supplies to bring immediate relief to those who are homeless, hungry and hurt.
