This campaign aims to encourage students to “speak out” against potentially illegal and discriminatory actions against them. The areas the campaign will focus on are:

  • Cultural Intolerance,
  • Homophobia,
  • Sexual harassment,
  • Bullying
  • Ageism
  • Disability discrimination
  • and Physical abuse.

The campaign aims to inform students of the facilities to support them with these issues within the University and the wider community.

For students it is an opportunity to report incidents via the Students’ Guild which will act as a confidential reporting centre.  This is part of a wider initiative to show students that they are truly cared for and that such crimes will not be tolerated.

The Guild is working in partnership with North Wales Police, Glyndwr University, The University of Wales and The National Union of Students. By using a multi-agency approach this initiative aims to provide a range of comprehensive and coordinated support for students who are victim of crimes.

The ultimate aim being to encourage students to speak out, facilitate counselling and improve reporting rates.

Adam Fuller, President of Glyndwr Guild of Students said:

"Speak Out is growing; we aim for anyone who suffers any kind of sexual assault or physical violence to feel confident that they can talk to the police, and that we can assist them in that process. We understand this can be an incredibly hard thing to do when you've just been the victim of such a crime and we want students to know that it is safe to come and talk to us. All our advisors are fully trained and everything you tell us will be completely confidential, we are here to help you.’

Luke Young, President of NUS Wales said:

"The joint partnership between the Students' Guild, the Police and Glyndwr University is one that is helping protect some of the most vulnerable in our communities from victimisation. The Speak Out Campaign shows the real impact that students are having in challenging hate crime. This is an intiative that will continue to provide help to those when they need it most."
