The first part of the day focused on presenting the results of independent research which measured learner satisfaction at colleges’ right across Wales.
The second part of the day was an opportunity to launch the new survey which now comes to replace the independent research and which will be piloted in all FEIs in Wales for a year before being rolled out as part of the new Learner Voice Strategy. NUSW will continue to play a key role in the delivery of this work.
Although the ‘old style’ survey was encouragingly positive, we anticipate to learn more from this revised version, which goes more in depth into the student experience and forms part of a wider attempt at improving learner involvement in FE colleges.
Lleu Williams, NUS Wales Deputy President, said:
“Although the survey is still in the early days, we are excited by its potential to help identify areas for improvement and play a key role as part of the new Learner Voice Strategy.
“It is essential, however that FE institutions recognise the need to diversify the range of tools to communicate with their students so as to get a comprehensive picture from an ever diversifying group of learners.
“It is important that colleges do more than just surveys and that the resources and time are put into an effective learner voice strategy within these colleges, to ensure that learners are listened to and action taken as a result.”
