Come Out for Equal Marriage

In December, NUS LGBT Campaign sent over 4,000 Christmas cards to David Cameron asking him to Come Out for Equal Marriage and make equal marriage happen now. We wanted some firm commitments, including details of what the bill would include and when they would be voting on it.

After many people sent cards, tweeted about it, sent emails to MPs and we even gained support from known faces, such as Stephen Fry and Caitlin Moran, we finally have some exciting news. The Marriage *Same-Sex Couples) Bill was announced in Parliament on 24 January, published on 25 January and a vote will be passed on Tuesday 5 February.

This leaves us with a short amount of time to do as much as we can to make Equal Marriage a reality. With your help, we can put pressure on the decision makers, our MPs, and let them know that their communities want Equal Marriage to happen.

If you’ve only got a minute:

@MP Me & @NUS_LGBT want you to vote for #EqualMarriage & #comeoutforequalmarriage How will you be voting?

@MP how will you be voting on #equalmarriage bill? Please vote yes & #comeoutforequalmarriage

If you’ve got a little longer:

Together, we can make a real positive change to LGBT people’s lives for the better, because different is not the same and making this small change would be a huge step in the right direction to LGBT equality. So let’s make this happen!
