The Coca-Cola Olympic Torch Tour will be coming to 20 Universities as part of a nationwide search for inspirational young people – Future Flames – to carry the Olympic Flame during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay through the London 2012 Inspire Project “Be a Champion”.

To recognise and reward the positive contributions made by young people from Universities every day, Coca-Cola, a Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, could be calling on everyone at your University to nominate the Future Flames they know: young people who use their passion in areas like sport and physical activity, music and dance, and community and the environment; to spread happiness in their local communities.
Ed Marsh, Vice President (Union Development), commented: "It’s a real honour for students and universities to have the opportunity to host the Future Flames Torch Tour. Its presence on campuses will inspire students to get involved in the Olympics, Paralympics and the Cultural Olympiad. It is great that NUS are part of this scheme which will bring much deserved recognition to the contribution of young people in communities all round the country."
Jon Woods, Country Manager Coca-Cola GB&I, said “We are delighted to be taking the Coca-Cola Olympic Torch Tour to 20 Universities across the UK this autumn, to celebrate all the amazing things students are doing in their communities. We want students and University staff across the country to nominate the inspirational young people they know and give them the chance to run with the Olympic Flame next summer.”
Throughout October and November, the Coca-Cola Olympic Torch Tour will be heading to 20 Universities to call on everyone to nominate the best of British youth. To become one of the 20 Universities to host the tour please collect your nomination form from the Coca-Cola stand at the Student Unions 2011 event at Leeds University on 19/20 July or visit www.cokezone.co.uk/student.
All entries must be returned by 5 August 2011 and successful unions will be contacted by the end of August 2011.
Dizzee Rascal, one of many music stars backing the scheme, said:
“It’s time to recognise young people in this country and Coke’s Future Flames campaign does just that. See the person, not the age. I see young people judged all the time and there’s negativity about them. But people should look at reality – many young people are making a positive difference but no one hears about it. We can change that by nominating the Future Flames we know.”
