Bullying sucks

63 per cent of respondents to a recent NUS bullying survey report that they have been bullied or are being bullied right now. For lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans students, who make up around seven per cent of the student population, homophobic and transphobic bullying is an invisible crisis ruining thousands of lives.

We’ve teamed up with NUS Welfare  to fight bullying at colleges and universities.

How you can get involved

  • You could run a stall or event to raise awareness of homophobic or transphobic bullying at your institution. You could also encourage students to lobby your vice chancellor or principal to develop an accessible and inclusive anti-bullying policy. You can order from us everything you need for a 10-Second Action campaign, including postcards for students to sign, Bullying Sucks sweets, and stickers with the website address.
  • You can also order Welfare and LGBT-focussed anti-bullying posters  to display in your union, and a Bullying Sucks booklet: your comprehensive guide to tackling bullying at your institution with a special focus on homophobic and transphobic bullying. This also includes information about sexist, disablist and racist bullying, bullying on teaching and medicine placements, and the full results of the NUS bullying survey.
