Why not join a club or society?

Whether you want to try something new, get some exercise, make friends, boost your CV, maintain an existing hobby or just do something random why not join a sports club or society?

Students’ Unions often support a wide range of sports clubs and societies and can help you set one up if you think they’re missing something. Groups range from political, spiritual, artistic, athletic, social, competitive and recreational to plain random!

If you’re new to your university or college, joining a club or society can be a great way to settle in and meet people. Existing members will be keen to show you around and get you involved. If you’ve been at university or college for a while, you’d still be welcome too – don’t think you’ve missed out just because you’re not a fresher anymore.

Many groups have taster sessions or drop-ins and most welcome new members throughout the year so it is never too late to give something a try and with many activities subsidised by the group’s fundraising or the students’ union, it can be a cheap way to try something new without making a big commitment.

Taking part in sports clubs and societies is a great way to develop your skills and can give you some great examples to talk about in job or further study applications and interviews, not to mention some great memories and stories to share with your friends.

Contact your students’ union or look out for their Fresher’s Fair to find out what is on offer.
