Although your first year of university will undoubtedly be spent exploring the nightlife of your chosen city, socialising with new friends, with the odd bit of academic work thrown in, there are likely to be some occasions when relaxing in your new room with a TV series will be just what the doctor ordered.
Whether you’ll want to spend an afternoon procrastinating, or recovering from a heavy night at the SU, the following box sets are sure to hit the spot.
1. Entourage
One of America’s best kept secrets, Entourage follows the life of rising Hollywood star Vincent Chase. A hugely outrageous show in every way, an array of lovable characters along with storylines to keep you hooked, it has just finished its eighth and final season. With a movie on its way, now is the perfect time to get to know Vince and the boys.
2. Desperate Housewives
Despite often dismissed by guys as being a ‘girls programme’, Desperate Housewives is a show that cannot be defined by one genre. It is an eclectic mix of comedy, drama, mystery and romance. The talented ensemble cast and juicy plots are easy to sink your teeth into. The show spans over eight seasons, each with around twenty four episodes at forty-two minutes long... Time to fork out some of that student loan on the complete collection!
3. Friends
Ross, Monica, Chandler and the gang may have left our screens back in 2004, but they are by no means forgotten. Quotes from this legendary show often enter everyday life and it is unlikely your new flatmates won’t enjoy bonding with you over a verse of ‘Smelly Cat’.
4. Sex and the City
A must have for all those of you who love a bit of gossip and scandal. Sex and the City is set in the heart of Manhattan, following the lives and loves of four single friends. You’ve probably watched the movies, but nothing beats sitting down after a lecture and laughing at the endless ‘sexscapades’ of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte right from the start.
5. American Horror Story
Love scary movies? If so, American Horror Story might just be for you. A horror-drama TV series tells the tale of the troubled Harmon family who move to a haunted mansion after a shock affair and a miscarriage. Following a successful first season, the second is currently being shot. With plenty of guts and gore, it’s not for the faint hearted.
