Going Green
NUS go out on a limb for its latest venture – participating in an attempt to break two Guinness World Records in tree planting.
Together with the Student Volunteering Initiative and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges, NUS is inviting UK universities and student unions to get involved with the BBC’s Breathing Places ‘Tree O’clock’ Campaign on 5 December. On this date students will be able to have a go at breaking the Guinness World Record for the most trees planted in multiple locations in one hour (the current record stands at 653,143) and the Guinness World Record for the most trees planted in one location in one hour (the current record is 18,124). There’s more to this than simply trying to make history, NUS’ collaboration with SVI and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges is part of an effort to engage student volunteers in national campaigns.
