Trailblazing research into student attitudes to drinking alcohol

NUS is delighted to have been awarded the opportunity to conduct a national social norms research project in universities in the UK, supported by Noctis, the trade body for the late night sector.

The study will assess the current attitudes towards drinking alcohol and drinking behaviours amongst students and will seek to understand these attitudes in comparison with those portrayed in the media.

This is a unique opportunity which could reach far beyond the university setting to support positive drinking behaviours into the future.

We are working with four universities to gain an understanding of drinking habits at:

  • University of Leeds
  • University of Gloucestershire
  • University of the Arts, London
  • Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh

We are seeking an understanding of current social norms on a typical student night out, developing awareness not only of individual behaviours, but of student opinions on student drinking habits as a whole.

The study will run until Autumn 2010.
