Going Green

How to be more eco-friendly

All of us could do more to minimise our impact on the environment. A few simple changes in our habits can make a big difference.

Get the train instead of a flight

Whether it’s a gap year or a vacation, students love to travel! A Eurostar train journey between London and Paris produces just one-tenth of the corresponding flight. And there are loads of discounts for students travelling Europe by train.

Buy ethical goods

Buying ethically makes you feel better and it makes a difference. It doesn’t even have to cost more. Namaste-UK, for example, trades fairly from Asia (but not China) and follows an agenda that helps minimise urbanisation, environmental impact and maximises social justice.

Buy and sell

Buying and selling on the internet is easy and fun. It is also cheap and helps prevent waste from being dumped into landfill sites. You could also hold a car boot sale or clothes swapping party.

Energy saving

Energy is expensive and it’s probably you who’s paying the bill. Cutting your energy use saves money and saves pollution. Energy saving light bulbs, draft excluders, timers and thermostats for the heating can make a big difference to your wallet and the environment.

Campaign for change

Here’s something YOU can do – campaign and play your part in making change happen. Support NUS and help Stop Climate Chaos
