Greener Unions

Green Impact Students' Unions

Green Impact Students’ Unions is an environmental accreditation programme with an awards element designed specifically for students’ unions. For decades students’ unions have been at the forefront of social and environmental campaigning.

However, with the majority of students’ unions not being metered for the utilities they use, and with sabbatical teams changing annually, many of our members struggled to get to grips with their own environmental impacts.

To address this, in 2006 we launched the Sound Environmental Impact Awards to provide a practical framework (achievable, quantifiable actions in an online workbook format) for greening students’ unions.

Download the good practice portfolios for 2008/092007/08 and 2006/07 to see the impact the programme has been having.

The programme has a competition element – top performing unions get special recognition at our prestigious annual awards ceremony.

It was a great success, and in 2010 it was renamed Green Impact Students’ Unions, and a record 105 unions have signed up for the 2011/12 programme!

Please check out our Green Impact website to find out more and how your union can get involved next year or email greenimpactunions@nussl.co.uk.
