The latest victory for students and workers against corporate power was the triumph of the Just Pay It! campaign against Nike.

Workers in Honduras had been left without severance pay after two factory closures. NUS, together with US and Canadian student unions, put pressure on Nike and supported the US student groups United Students Against Sweatshops  wave of protests and petitions.

By threatening to add the voices of British students to the campaign, Nike gave in to all of the campaign demands and paid out $1.54 million!

NUS is continually seeking to put pressure on multinational corporations who have a poor track record on worker rights and ethical purchasing by using the power of student purchasing. We are working with People and Planet and Label Behind the Label on the Buy Right campaign to raise awareness amongst students about ethical purchasing, as well as lobbying our unions and universities to purchase ethically sound goods.
