Student Switch Off is a behavioural change campaign encouraging students to lessen their energy usage while staying in halls of residence. In previous years, Student Switch Off has seen success rates of up to 7% reduction in electricity usage across participating halls, saving around 1,500 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere - all from tiny changes which make a big difference, like putting lids on pans, popping on a jumper instead of the heating, and only boiling as much water as you need!
And aside from helping to reduce the effects of climate change - the most successful halls are rewarded with a party at the end of the academic year, while individual efforts are rewarded with Ben and Jerry's, Lush goodies, club night tickets, and much more.
Student Switch Off is getting bigger and better every year - reaching more and more students, offering better and better prizes to people for getting involved, and making an even greater impact on climate change and unnecessary waste. If you're moving into halls later this year, be sure to find out if your institution is participating, and sign up to their Facebook fan page for all the latest information on Student Switch Off.
