For students' unions

Graduate Employability Award

As a result of the report “working towards your future” we published with the CBI, it was clear that almost 70% of students wanted a nationally recognised employability award.  Similarly, students’ unions had provided policy to NUS requesting a similar project.  After a period of testing and stakeholder engagement, we’re now in the final phases of development of our national Graduate Employability Award, jointly administered with Pearson Education.

Primarily aimed at helping undergraduates reflect on the activity they’ve undertaken at university and articulating the skills they’ve developed to enhance their employability, the Graduate Employability Award is the first nationally consistent, skills-based award designed for students with employers in mind.

Whilst many universities currently offer their own institutional schemes, this award aims to provide a single consistent approach for students to undertake, which will ensure that whilst the activity they’ve undertaken is unique, the way in which they are able to reflect and articulate their skills is consistent.

Whether you’re a large graduate recruiter or a smaller business, we hope that the award will enable you to understand the skills graduates have developed in a way that allows you to introduce a new sifting mechanism, or encourages you to introduce a more formal recruitment process in line with your business needs.

The award is built on the key employability skills the CBI have identified and we’ve built it so that it’s fully scalable, using external assessors and an online system for recording information; meaning that whether you’re an institution with 1,000 students or 30,000 you can focus on running projects which aim to develop students’ skills and leave the assessment and accreditation of those skills to us.
