For students' unions

Employment Commission

In order to encourage students and students’ unions to think about how they can lead the change necessary in order to deal with some of the biggest issues in employment, employability and entrepreneurialism today, we’ve launched a Commission on Employment to look at issues and actions in depth.

We’ll be hosting hearings in Parliament where we’ll be inviting key players to give evidence around the biggest issues, providing students and students’ unions with solutions that they can directly take-up.  We’ll be looking to hear from students’ unions, business-leaders, politicians, economists, environmentalists and educationalists to bring together as many different perspectives and create the broadest possible options for change.

As well as formal hearings, we’ll be using research commissioned with the New Economics Foundation (NEF) and drawing on a wide range of other research available and working with students and students’ unions to ascertain what campaigns are on-going which we can learn from.

We aim for the Commission to report to the NUS Zone Conferences with recommendations for national policy being discussed by the membership before finally being submitted in December 2013.
