EurOpinions – Citizenship and Europe events for young people

EurOpinions – Citizenship and Europe events for young people - 28/11/2008

The Citizenship team at the Learning & Skills Network is currently organising a series of ‘EurOpinions’ events for young people, on behalf of the European Parliament UK Office.

The events will take place in various UK cities between November 2008 and July 2009. The aim of the events is to involve young people aged 16-25 in fun, interactive activities which explore the way the European Union works and consider some key issues affecting the EU today.

The events offer a fantastic opportunity for young people to debate issues with MEPs and to develop their knowledge and understanding of how they can have a stake in shaping the future of the European Union

The aims and benefits of the events are:
•         to raise awareness of how Europe is governed (in particular the role and powers of the European Parliament) and some of the main issues affecting  the European Union today.
•         to encourage young people to think about the sort of Europe they want to be part of and what action we need to take to achieve this.
•         to provide a platform for the views of young people on European issues, such as the environment, migration, poverty, international security.
•         to provide an opportunity for young people to hear the views of elected Members of the European Parliament and exchange views with them.

Dates and locations:
•         Friday 28 November 2008 – London
•         Friday 5 December 2008 – Birmingham
•         Friday 23 January 2009 - Manchester
•         Friday 10 July 2009 – Newcastle
