Student voting and civic participation

We’re working with Beth Walker, Vice President (Further Education) to promote the ongoing Citizen 16 campaign. Initially, this has involved identifying and working with partners to ensure a concerted and cooperative approach from different student and youth organisations.

We’ll be aiming to increase student participation in voting ahead of a likely general election in 2009. This work will focus on:

  • Working with the electoral commission  to get students registered to vote
  • Promoting the importance of voting and civil participation to students through students’ unions
  • Running a ‘get the student vote out’ promotional campaign in the event of a general election being called to increase participation in voting among students.
