Did you know that you could also get extra funding from your university in the form of a bursary or schorarship? The thing is, last year universities failed to distribute more than £19 million to students who were entitled to the additional support. This might be your money.
To add insult to injury, there’s no simple way for you to find the best support on offer as different institutions have their own criteria for bursaries and scholarships. Your course choices, academic and other achievements, as well as financial background, can impact how much you’re entitled to. This means that someone with the same financial background as you could be getting more money…pretty messed up isn’t it?
NUS is proposing a single, simple student support system: a ‘one stop shop’ for all finance questions and solutions. The government can do this easily and improve student support and students’ experience at a stroke, but we need to demonstrate to MPs that you care about this issue. It’s time to make our case for a single student support scheme.
Take action now
If the broken support system has left you broke, email your MP telling them of your situation. The more people that do this, the greater the chance of our success. We've already prepared a model letter for you, so all you need to do is change a few key details and email/write to your MP.
This small action will make a significant contribution to the campaign. There'll be more chances to get involved in the coming months, so keep an eye on these pages.
