Nations

the movement is made up of autonomous nations

While NUS represents the interests of students across the UK, the movement is made up of autonomous nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Significant differences in educational sectors

There are significant differences in the further and higher education sectors in England and Scotland, and NUS Scotland has staff working on research, policy, membership development and public and political affairs.

The UCMC/NUS Wales team deals with day-to-day administration and supports the Welsh elected officers.

NUS-USI (Northern Ireland) focuses on the needs of students’ unions in Ireland and campaigns to defend and extend the rights of students in the country.

Each nation holds it own conference and elects it's own sabbs

Each nation holds its own conference, at which one or more sabbatical officers are elected and policy is set. The nations have their own constitutions and run many of the same liberation and other campaign committees as NUS (UK).

In addition to their own responsibilities, the presidents of UCMC/NUS Wales and NUS Scotland and the Convenor of NUS-USI also sit on the NEC and assume general responsibilities.

They are accountable to the conferences that elected them.
