Our future strength and direction depends on the talent of our officers. The more people who stand for election, the better the quality of our democracy.
Whatever takes your interest, be it an NEC officer role, a committee or regional post, we encourage you to think about standing.
During Annual Conference, elections take place for 18 of the 27 places on the NEC. The full-time posts elected are:
- National President
- National Treasurer
- National Secretary
- Vice-President Education
- Vice-President Further Education
- Vice-President Welfare
The 12 NEC officers without portfolio are also elected at Annual Conference. All other places on the NEC are elected at Liberation and Special Conferences. These positions are subject to change due to Extraordinary Conference, which will be held on 20 January 2009.
Nominations must be submitted to NUS headquarters by 5.00pm on Friday 30 January. Read our nine-step guide on how to stand for a position on the National Executive Committee.
Involvement in one of the numerous NUS committees doesn’t require the same amount of time as a position on the National Executive, so it can be a good way to combine national representation with your local commitments.
