Keeping Your Home Safe
Your student house or room in halls is where you will keep most of your stuff. In a typical student house each room will have a computer, MP3 player, maybe a TV - so it is no surprise then that criminals target student digs.
Criminals raiding a student house can walk away with a number of laptops and phones – and they’re easy to carry!
Halls
Most university student halls adhere to security regulations. If however you feel something in your hall is not right or that security equipment has failed, then let your hall manager know or speak to your students’ union.
Out of term-time thieves know your house or halls will be empty. Take all your belongings with you, put them in secure storage or ask a friend to look after them.
Private Rented
If you are renting a house in the private sector then make sure you use the checklist in your . When liaising with your landlord, do so in writing and keep a copy in case you need proof. Most students’ unions will look at your contract for you and check its ok.
